IBC ACLEDA Field Trip to Svay Rieng

August 14 — 15, 2009

Following members' suggestion that the IBC explore more of Cambodia on its annual field trips, the Club went to Svay Rieng Province on the 14th and 15th of August 2009 to visit a fabricator of light fixtures using battery power, a self-contained bio-fuel project and a factory producing metal fasteners. Members were also treated to a teasing drive-past of the casinos in Bavet on the border with Vietnam.

The highlight of the expedition was our timely participation at the opening of one of our members' branches in Svay Rieng. Although the road to Svay Rieng was dotted with over a dozen ACLEDA Bank branches, district offices and service posts, members were hosted at an entertainment extravaganza to celebrate ACLEDA Bank's Svay Rieng Branch and had the pleasure of the company of the Provincial Governor.

The entire operation was handled with military precision. Our host, ACLEDA Bank organized a breakfast buffet at the Raffles (more for the purpose of ensuring that members could be easily accounted for). They provided transport, lunch, hotel accommodation for those who wished to stay overnight, and returned us safely to Phnom Penh. At every step, staff members were on hand to assist — whether to manage ferry queues, visits to the nominated start-up businesses, ordering breakfast etc. — not to mention the fact that the bus came fully equipped with tour leader and refreshments that never seemed to run out! Logistics to perfection!

IBC members were joined by Their Excellencies the German Ambassador and his wife and the British Ambassador. For those who had never experienced an ACLEDA Bank Branch opening before — it was nothing short of an unbelievable encounter — to witness bank staff creating an atmosphere of pride and joy for all to take part. All the entertainment was composed, choreographed and executed in-house. The only thing left for us to do was to have a great time — and that we did!
